 Independence Days sequels
id4I have come across some more information about ID 2 & 3.

Independence Day's upcoming sequels will take place 20 years after the original film, director Roland Emmerich has revealed. Emmerich and co-writer Dean Devlin.has completed the script for two sequels to the 1996 Sci-fi - titled ID Forever Part I and ID Forever Part II

The Amazing Spider-Man's James Vanderbilt has now been handed the script for a rewrite, Emmerich told Entertainment Weekly. Speaking about the overall plot of the sequels, he said: "The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that's 20 or 25 years."

He continued: "It's a changed world. It's like parallel history. [Humans] have harnessed all this alien technology. We don't know how to duplicate it because it's organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an anti-gravity device and put it in a human airplane."

Emmerich added that the first part would end on a cliffhanger to set up the third instalment, and that it would mainly feature new characters.

He said: "It's still some of the same characters, but also new younger characters; it's a little bit like the sons take over."

Will Smith, Jeff Goldbum and Bill Pullman starred in the original film, which centred around an alien invasion that took place on America's annual Independence Day holiday.

The film grossed over $816 million (£520 million) at the box office worldwide. Bill Pullman recently confirmed that he will be involved in the project, while Will Smith has yet to sign up.

 Independence Day II
id4As you may or may not know, there is speculation that there is going to be a second Independence Day. Known as *Insert dramatic music here* Independence Day II. Yeah, I know.

The story line, if it is true and not just speculation, will be a prequel detailing what the lives of the main characters where like before the alien attack. This, in my opinion, would not be a very compelling story line seeing as the one of the characters is an 'Exotic Dancer' (Posh word's for Stripper). Now, that's not very Science Fiction-ey, so to speak, is it?

But who am I kidding, I would still probably watch it because I love alien movies and I am a fan of Will Smith and Bill Pullman. Speaking of Will Smith, there is also spectulation that I Am Legend II is also in the pipe lines. This movie also being a prequel. It seems to me that Will Smiths carer now consists of acting in sequels and prequels, being that his last stand alone film was Seven Pounds and his new films are/going to be: Men In Black THREE, Independence Day TWO and I Am Legend TWO.

Independence Day 2, 3: Coming Soon
id4Independence Day 2 and 3 are coming: Will Smith on board

Yes, not one, but two sequels to Roland Emmerich's 1996 alien invasion blockbuster Independence Day are apparently in the works. IESB claims that 20th Century Fox is developing two films to be shot back-to-back, both with Will Smith in the lead. Apparently one of the main reasons there hasn’t been a sequel to the original movie was Will Smith’s request for a larger share of the profits. According to IESB's source, he will now get $20 million up front as well as part of the gross takings. Fox can now offer more as they are swimming in the massive financial returns reaped from James Cameron's Avatar.

If true, this is bad news for the already delayed Asimov Foundation trilogy: it’s likely Roland Emmerich will direct the Independance Day film after his latest film Anonymous about the life of William Shakespeare, delaying the Foundation start date even further.

Given recent studio obsessions with the 3D technology, there's no doubt that if the two films are going ahead, they'll both be in 3D - whether Emmerich or Smith want them to be in 3D or not.

This is still marked as a rumour, so we'll let you know when (and if!) it’s confirmed.
